An acquired brain injury can happen through accident or illness e.g.; a stroke or brain tumour.

It can happen at any stage of life and may have a devastating impact on a person’s life and the lives of their family members.

Each person is different but may experience changes to their physical, cognitive and communication abilities.

Changes in a person’s ability to control their emotions or behaviour may also be the result of a brain injury.

Sometimes referred to as “the hidden injury”, the effects of an acquired brain injury are often not obvious to the outside world yet can bring about real challenges for the person as they look to returning to previous life roles and activities.
